If our country is impacted again by a pandemic, our 4-H members will be able to survive with skills they learn in their club meetings. This year we will learn more about growing a garden, how to preserve food through canning, how to raise livestock and basic sewing. Haw Creek Farm and Home 4-H Club Leader, Pat Cody, stated “The pandemic allowed me to reflect on the basic meaning of what our 'Farm and Home' club teaches, and part of that is survival. Club Leader Mike Faidley creates a space for healthy competition at each club meeting encouraging members to learn by doing, pursue goals and enjoy time with other youth. Our TopShots Archery 4-H Club has met weekly since the start of our 4-H year to prepare members to compete in their first competition in December. These projects are a perfect example of a hands-on program that teaches self-discipline, responsibility and life skills that help them develop into well-rounded citizens. Many have already started with their fair projects for the year. Youth can exhibit swine, steers, heifers, wethers, rabbits and pullets in the fair. These clubs are made possible by 14 amazing adult volunteers who donate a significant amount of their free time as club leaders.Ī large portion of our 4-H youth will have projects in the Flagler County Fair and Youth Show in April 2022.

Our youth have various projects in subject areas such as animal science, healthy living, citizenship, agriculture and shooting sports (archery). We currently have six community clubs that meet actively. This year with in-person, virtual and hybrid program options, we strive to Find Our Spark and rebuild our 4-H community.įor National 4-H Week, instead of focusing on the downfalls of the pandemic, we would like to highlight the 146 (Flagler County 4-H membership to date) youth that continue to make the best better in our community. Many of our clubs could not uphold member participation and some made the tough decision to disband.

Because of this, Flagler County 4-H membership took a significant hit. National 4-H has chosen the theme '#FindYourSpark.'įor the last year and a half, most of our 4-H programs went virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Here in Flagler County, we will take advantage of this week to highlight our remarkable 4-H youth.
